Math is one of those subjects that students either love or hate. Doing it without enjoying it at least a little bit can be tedious and take tons of time, and the hard work doesn’t even always pay off. No wonder so many students try to use ChatGPT for math, hoping that it will reduce the time and effort spent on homework.
However, is it a good idea? Can you trust ChatGPT’s calculations and math problem solutions? As the creators admit, “ChatGPT can make mistakes. Check important info.” This is just a disclaimer you see in every chat, but it’s absolutely valid, and ignoring it is a risk. ChatGPT does make mistakes, even more so in math.
The thing is, as an LLM, ChatGPT isn’t designed for math problems. It handles calculations like language tasks by predicting likely patterns. This isn’t the best approach to math, so the accuracy is questionable at best.
